    1. Works

Pros: – Budget friendly – High build quality – Accurate – 11 brightness settings – Tacticool mounts for different mounting positions Cons: – Night time settings have too aggressive of a curve. N1 and N2 not usable without NVG. 3rd setting is very hard to see making it nearly impractical without a magnifier. The 4th setting and the only usable one in my opinion at night is too bright and ends up smudging the dot. – Needs a revision with an on/off switch rather than going through the settings. If you have this on your duty gun you pretty much have to keep it on at all times draining the battery. By the time you pick it up and get it on the right setting it’s too late. – Made in China. Really wish you guys made your stuff in the USA or at least somewhere that isn’t China. I’d even pay more for it. Read more

I had higher expectations from a company with a reputation like Vortex. I guess you get what you pay for though. The good: seems well built, and durable. The bad: Brightness knob is difficult to turn. If the knob was mounted a quarter inch farther away from the windage adjustment it would be more user friendly. The brightness of the dot starts at a 4 on the dial. 1-3 do not work. No dot is visible, even in a pitch dark room. I understand that N1 and N2 are night vision, which I can only assume is visible under infrared optics. The actual red dot isn’t even a dot. It’s a line, and it’s far from precision. I’ve ordered a Sig ROMEO5, I guess I will compare the two when it arrives, will probably be returning this optic. Read more

I have 3 of these. I like the glass tint better than the primary arms micro red dot. It’s almost clear which is nice in low light. Primary Arms has a very slight tint. The dot is more crisp on the primary arms than the vortex. Other than that they are identical Read more

It’s a Vortex, why say more. Have this mounted on Model 629. Easy, installation, sighting in. I like the size and weight. This is my 4th Vortex product. Have had an occasion for warranty work in the past and they were A+ all the way. Read more

-Works great -Easy Install and zeroing -I turn the brightness/on/off knob half way between setting to turn it off so I don’t have to turn it all the way back and forth, it’s worked great so far. -I would recommend this for the price and ease of use. – Read more

I’ve been buying Vortex products since they started making them on a small work bench. Their warranty is second to none! Dont be fooled, they started the entire VIP warranty and other companies imitate. As for the unit its crisp and clear. Its lightweight and the turn dial is very user friendly with great feedback. The battery life is 50,000 hours so just leave it on. Fit and finish it very well done. There is no optic out of my reach, I choose vortex first. Read more

I am a fan of Vortex. I have several scopes and binoculars by them and they have all been well built and great quality. I think for the price they produce the best optics. This red dot is no exception. I have it mounted on a nice sporting rifle chambered in 30 cal. and it holds zero fine. A side note: I have had occasion to use Vortex’s warranty do to my own stupidity and they do stand behind their products. Another reason I am a fan and will continue to purchase Vortex products. I won’t say great “budget” red dot. I won’t say “good for the money”. That implies that you’re giving up quality for price, and that’s something I won’t do. I will, however say that if you’re looking for a tough, no frills, quality red dot, this one is for you. I wanted a red dot that could stand the rigors of being mounted to a defensive 12 gauge, and I wanted something that was free of gimmicks and unnecessary doodads. There are similar red dots out there, but nothing could sway me from the Vortex name. Owning a Vortex Strikefire II already, I’ve dealt with their customer service a few times, and let me tell you, nobody stands behind their product more than Vortex. When you have quality optics like this and incredible customer service to back it up, there’s no other choice as far as I’m concerned. PROS: No frills quality optic Will withstand shotgun mounting Two mounts included – so if I want to go from AK platform to AR platform, no problem Vortex name Small and unobtrusive Wet conditions are no problem CONS: Brightness control is a bit hard to turn, and it must be turned somewhere between zero and eleven when you want to use it. It does not go from eleven back to zero with one click. Further, it does not feature activation when it senses movement. You either turn it on, leave it on, or turn it off. I don’t see this making a difference because I don’t foresee needing a red dot if somebody kicks my bedroom door in. This red dot is perfect for my needs, and you cannot go wrong with the Vortex name. Side note – I do have astigmatism. All red dots look like they’re more of a line than a dot. People with better eyesight than mine tell me it’s a nice, crisp dot. Read more
